Welcome to Cirencester Golf Club Seniors Section we welcome gentlemen over the age of 55, there are roll-ups on a Monday and Wednesday morning excluding days which are Bank Holidays or have internal Senior Competitions planned. A draw for partners takes place at 08:10 in the summer and 08:25 in the winter, but most Seniors arrive earlier for a relaxed chat and a coffee.
Once a month we have official Stableford or Medal competitions with the starting list being posted on the Seniors notice board about a month in advance. In addition to this we have a number of fun social competitions run throughout the year again with starting lists being posted on the Senior notice board about a month in advance.
From March through to September we have 38 matches against other clubs as well as internal matches against Club Captain, Club President, Ladies and Juniors most of which involve dinner afterwards. Selection for these teams is by putting your name down on the match lists which are posted on the Senior match board a month or so prior to the match.
Senior members are very sociable and some have had very interesting lives, jobs etc. We celebrate members birthdays at 80 and 90 with a cut down version of "This is Your Life" and the variety of backgrounds, careers and life experiences can be quite enthralling.
We have a lunch with wives/partners in November, a Three Club Competition followed by Christmas Lunch in December and a men only Annual Dinner in March.
Seniors Captain 2017
Cirencester Seniors v Tewkesbury Park Seniors - Monday 10th July
Cirencester 2.5 - Tewkesbury Park 5.5
Cirencester Seniors travelled to Tewkesbury Park on Monday morning with a confident air having won their last two matches.
However, they came upon a strong Tewkesbury Park team losing the match by 5.5 to 2.5, with a number of players including the captain struggling to keep the ball out of the trees.
Congratulations should go to the pairings of David James / Andy Ponting and Ian Perry / Adrian Ruskell who both won their games and Alan Dymond / Martin Taylor who gained an honourable half.
Cirencester Seniors v Lilley Brook Seniors - Tuesday 11th July
Cirencester 2.5 -Lilleybrook 3.5
A close match took place on Tuesday 11th July at Cirencester Golf Club in absolutely appalling weather. Very heavy rain showers occurred at various intervals during the golf so well done to all who played from both teams.Things were looking generally good for the first 4 matches for Cirencester whom at that time stood with one win and 3 halves. But this was unfortunately not to last as the last two games were lost to Lilley Brook. The final results were a win for Mike Staples & John Thurston, with halved matches for Keith Hodgson & Emrys Williams, Bob Allen & Alan Dymond and David Findlay & David Golding.
There followed and excellent meal and plenty of good banter between the players during the meal, although we were promised some jokes by the Lilley Brook Captain which unfortunately did not happen, however, they did win!!
