Welcome to Cirencester Golf Club Seniors Section we welcome gentlemen over the age of 55, there are roll-ups on a Monday and Wednesday morning excluding days which are Bank Holidays or have internal Senior Competitions planned. A draw for partners takes place at 08:10 in the summer and 08:25 in the winter, but most Seniors arrive earlier for a relaxed chat and a coffee.
Once a month we have official Stableford or Medal competitions with the starting list being posted on the Seniors notice board about a month in advance. In addition to this we have a number of fun social competitions run throughout the year again with starting lists being posted on the Senior notice board about a month in advance.
From March through to September we have 38 matches against other clubs as well as internal matches against Club Captain, Club President, Ladies and Juniors most of which involve dinner afterwards. Selection for these teams is by putting your name down on the match lists which are posted on the Senior match board a month or so prior to the match.
Senior members are very sociable and some have had very interesting lives, jobs etc. We celebrate members birthdays at 80 and 90 with a cut down version of "This is Your Life" and the variety of backgrounds, careers and life experiences can be quite enthralling.
We have a lunch with wives/partners in November, a Three Club Competition followed by Christmas Lunch in December and a men only Annual Dinner in March.

Cirencester Golf Club Seniors v Defence Academy - 14th June
A team of 12 Cirencester Seniors visited the Defence Academy at Shrivenham to play the annual away match on Wednesday 14th June. The hot conditions obviously did not suit the Cirencester team as they lost the match by 2 to 4. Dave Marshall & Gerry Bruton as well as Graham Morgan & David Lowbridge scored halves but the only win came from Nigel Curtis & David Neale with a 2&1 victory. As usual the Defence Academy made the Cirencester team extremely welcome and the whole team really enjoyed the match.
Cirencester Golf Club Championship Medal - 12th June
Cirencester Seniors held their Championship Medal on 12th June and attracted a field of 85 entrants, 32 from Division 1 and 53 from Division 2. The overall winner was the very steady Gerry Bruton in Division 1 with a very good score of net 67, but the next 4 places went to Divison 2 golfers. Ken Anderson just failed to come joint first overall on countback and scored a equal net 67 followed by Robin Johnson (net 68), Martin Harrison (net 69) and Brian Hammond (net 70). Gerry Bruton and Eric Varcoe both recorded 2's on holes 2 & 11 respectively.
Thursday 8th June
Cirencester Seniors travelled to Cotswold Hills Golf Club for the annual away match on Thursday 8th June with high expectations following a win in the home match. Unfortunately this was not to be and the Cotswold Hills team thoroughly outplayed the Cirencester players. The match ended up 7 games to one in favour of Cotswold Hills GC but despite such a great result for them the Cirencester team all enjoyed the friendship and welcome given to them. The only winning game for Cirencester came from the pairing of Bob Allen and Graham Morgan who recorded a 4 and 2 victory at least giving Cirencester a little solace.

Cirencester Seniors Match v South Cerney (A)
Cirencester 4 South Cerney 2
A beautiful sunny hot day welcomed the team to South Cerney for a local derby.
Interestingly Cirencester had put up a good selection of team members of which about a third were previously South Cerney members, therefore knowing the ins and outs of a sometimes tricky course.
Keith Hodgson and Neil Halls were first in with a win of 2 & 1 quickly followed by Mick Moore and Paul Horrell with a 1 up win. However Ken Anderson and Neil Grant lost their match 1 down but were quickly followed by a win from John King and Joe Hickey 1 up.
Injured Clive Bennett and Phillip Needham were next in with a 3 down loss so the whole match revolved around John Thurston and Mike Bubbage, who luckily , or perhaps it was just good golf arrived in the clubhouse with an important win of 1 up giving a resounding away win to Cirencester players of 4 to 2 victory.
After the golf a great meal was enjoyed by all players served by excellent staff. Keith Hodgson, Cirencester Seniors Vice Captain thanked the staff very much and thanked the members of South Cerney for an excellent day enjoyed by all.
